Brazil Carl de Souza
A visual journey through Brazil’s culture, sport, and politics, seen through the lens of British photojournalist Carl de Souza, based on six years living and working in the country.
Carl de Souza is currently the Chief Photographer for Mexico with AFP news agency. He has 26 years experience as a photojournalist covering all aspects of news and sports. He has also been the Chief photographer of East Africa for AFP and before that was based in London UK.
He was posted in Pakistan for 3 months and has covered major world events such as the funeral of Nelson Mandela, the wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William and the Funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. He has photographed many famous figures during the years including the Dalai Lama, the Queen of England. Various Prime Ministers, and American Presidents and pop icons like Brazilian pop star Anitta.
He has also covered conflicts in Libya, South Sudan, Burundi, Congo, and Somalia and conflict in Rio de Janeiro’s favelas In October 2007 he was in very close proximity to a car bomb in Pakistan that killed almost 150 people dead at the scene. He has also covered 3 world cups and 3 Olympic Games.
His photos have been published on front pages on most of the worlds major newspapers and magazines.
He has won a Sports Journalist Award and places in the Photo of the Year International contest. And has been asked to judge various international Photo Awards.
He has extensive experience as both a Photo Manager, editor and photographer.
